Medium Sized Vehicles - Category C1

Vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer up to 750kg. If you passed your car test after 30th June 1996. you now need to take a further test for this vehicle.

Medium Sized Vehicles - Category C1+E

Vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer over 750kg, total weight not more than 12000kg. If you passed your car test before 1st January 1997 you will be restricted to a total weight not more than 8250kg.

Large Vehicles - Category C

Vehicles over 7500kg with a trailer up to 750kg.

Large Vehicles with trailer- Category C+E

Vehicles over 7500kg with a trailer over 750kg. Category C, above, must be passed before you can proceed with this category.

Bus - Category D

Any bus with more than 8 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg.

Bus with Trailer - Category D+E

Any bus with more than 8 passenger seats with a trailer over 750kg.

Minibus - Category D1

Vehicles with between 9 and 16 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg.

Minibus and Trailer - Category D1+E

Vehicle from category D1 with a trailer over 750kg. The combined Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) must not exceed 12000kg, and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle.

Car and Trailer - Category B+E

If you passed your car test on or after 1st January 1997 you are required to pass an additional driving test to allow you to tow caravans and trailers.
